Description
The splendid exhibition halls of Palazzo Arese Borromeo are once again hosting the photography of the great masters.
The exhibition Bicycle Thieves. Photographs of Neorealism in the Italy of rebirth aims to recount the climate of the era and, at the same time, a piece of our history, when the passion for bicycles was extremely connected to existence.
The exhibition path, curated by Enrica Viganò, unfolds in a long sequence shot composed of 88 photographs from the authors’ archives or private collections.
On the walls is represented the artistic work of 35 great photographers, which for the first time is collected in an unpublished exhibition, curated exclusively on the occasion of the 18th stage of the 108th Giro d’Italia in Cesano Maderno.
The photographs on display come from photographic archives and private collections that have generously granted the loan of the works. In particular, the precious contribution of:
- Guido Bertero Collection, Turin
- Rudi Bianchi Collection, Los Angeles, California
- Ilaria Bonalumi Penati Collection, Austin, Texas
- EVA Collection, Milan
- Gianni Berengo Gardin Archive
- Alfredo Camisa Photographic Archive
- Mario De Biasi Archive
- Ernesto Fantozzi Archive
- Sante Vittorio Malli Archive
- Cecilia Mangini Photographer Archive
- Nino Migliori Foundation

Since the post-war period, Italy has changed, but the passion for bicycles, despite the distance that separates us from then, still unites a huge audience. The same goes for the affection and nostalgia with which we look at post-war Italy, projected towards the economic miracle, a country in search of its social and cultural redemption.
