Arese Borromeo Garden

Arese Borromeo Garden

Almost 10 hectares of park that include an Italian garden with statues and rose gardens, a pond, a large baroque fountain and the Temple of the Faun.

Opposite Palazzo Arese Borromeo lies the vast Italian garden, with parterre flowerbeds bordered by formally pruned box hedges, emphasizing the central perspective and compositional schematism of the architectural and landscape ensemble.
The current appearance of the garden, spread over an area of approximately 10 hectares, is the result of careful restoration work promoted in recent decades by the public body that owns it. The architectural features of the Baroque period have been almost entirely maintained, starting with the sandstone sculptures of mythological or allegorical subjects, through the Aviary and the Temple of the Faun, with the underlying icehouse, up to the decorative apparatus of the Nymphaeum, created in the northern wing of the residence as a place of contemplation, a connecting element between the latter and the surrounding landscape.
At the end of the perspective telescope, emphasized by the hornbeam avenue, you can admire the exedra with the scenic stepped fountain, originally fed by the Roggia Borromeo, which channeled water from the Valsorda to the water features of the garden. Beyond the boundary of the formal layout, you can access the “oval lake,” where the route continues into the English garden, with a thousand tree specimens, including numerous centuries-old plants.
